Quality Installation Verification Digital Checkup
A QIV Digital Checkup is a COOL SMART way to ensure quality and energy savings for existing central air conditioning or heat pump systems!
The QIV Digital Checkup measures for proper refrigerant charge and air flow of the central air conditioner or heat pump systems using leading edge diagnostic tools. A COOL SMART trained air-conditioning technician who works for the installing contractor tests the system while it's running and takes a series of measurements which are analyzed via computer. Within a few minutes the technician and homeowner know how the system is performing.
The Digital Checkup may be done as a special visit or during normally scheduled maintenance, tune up or repair work.

System Requirements
- The system is operable prior to Digital Checkup
- The system was installed prior to April 1, 2005
Instant Credit
A $100 Instant Credit on the contractor invoice may be available from the COOL SMART program through participating QIV listed contractors when all the following conditions are met:
- The customer agrees to pay the QIV contractor for repairs if needed that are sufficient to at least adjust charge with respect to air flow
- The unit passes COOL SMART requirements at least for system charge with respect to air flow
- This unit meets system requirements as defined above and the customer has not received an incentive for a Digital Checkup on the system within the past five years
Liability and Release
As part of the consideration for participating in the program, participant hereby releases and shall indemnify, hold harmless and defend COOL SMART, its member utilities and sponsors, and the Rebate Administrator from any and all claims, losses, harm, costs, liabilities, damages and expenses (including attorneys' fees) of any nature whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of or in connection with the installation or servicing of air conditioning or heat pump equipment at the premises or any material and labor required for such service or installation.

Quality Installation Verification - Digital Checkup Questions and Answers
Q1. Must repairs or adjustments be made in order for the customer to receive the Instant Credit?
A1. No. If the unit passes refrigerant charge with respect to airflow without adjustments the contractor may apply the Instant Credit to the cost of the Digital Checkup call or to the normal fee for the site visit.
Q2. Are there circumstances for which the Instant Credit will not apply?
A2. Yes. When permission to proceed with a Digital Checkup is given and the system needs repair in order to pass program requirements and the homeowner refuses such repairs, the Instant Credit does not apply and the homeowner may be responsible for any contractor charges for the Digital Checkup.
Q3. What happens if after the Digital Checkup or tune up or repair service, the unit does not pass program requirements. Will the customer qualify for the $100 instant credit?
A3. No. If the equipment is beyond repair, the customer may consider replacing it with a new ENERGY STAR qualified equipment and receive a $300 rebate from COOL SMART.
Q4. If the COOL SMART QIV contractor recommends air flow improvements (such as duct sealing) in order for my system to deliver its full cooling capacity and pass program standards, do I have to pay for the airflow improvements in order to be eligible for the $100 credit?
A4. No, provided the contractor can get the system to pass the charge with respect to air flow test without making air flow improvements. However, you must sign a COOL SMART form to acknowledge that you understand that airflow improvements often lead to significant HEATING/COOLING comfort and/or energy savings benefits.
